(3) Holster has been backed early, and rightly so in my opinion. He looks progressive and was unlucky not to break his maiden last start at Sandown after getting back in the field. He was held up around the turn but rattled home once clear behind an all the way winner, who has since placed in a decent metro bm64. From barrier 6, Dee should be able to position him closer, especially up to 1600m, and the Yargi stable are striking at nearly double their career average from their last 50 starts.

(9) Pacific Rim found the 1950m a bridge too far last start and can improve back to the mile. He maps to get a lovely run on speed from barrier 4.

(6) Still Be Friends looks the horse to beat here. I didn’t mind his run behind Beltoro last start at Flemington, where he got a bit keen vying for the lead early, then boxing on soundly, beaten 3.5L. The form out of that race has been strong, and they did go at a strong speed. Narvaez led and has won since, and Beltoro has run 2^nd to potential group 1 horse Ayrton. From barrier 2, Thornton should get a lovely run on speed and be strong late.

(3) The Felon steps up to 1400m after two solid runs over 1200m this prep. His form ties in easily with Still Be Friends through Field Of Roses, who beat them both home. The Felon did finish closer, but that was in a slowly run race where he had every chance. I’m not sure about him at 1400m, and he’ll have to do a bit of work early to get across to a handy position.

Happy to stick with (6) Japery here, third up. He had no hope last start at The Valley, settling off the speed behind Esta La Roca, who was rated beautifully in the lead. Japery raced wide without cover for most of the race and copped a bump approaching the turn. When third up last prep, also at 1100, he ran 2^nd by a head to That Girl, and a repeat of that performance would win this. Billy Egan jumps back aboard, who has ridden him at every other career start, and he maps to blend into the race and present off a fast tempo.

(10) Turquoise Hope has won his last two and looks promising, but has had the right run in both races and draws a wide gate here.

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
