Moonee Valley Tips

Moonee Valley is one of the major metropolitan race tracks in Melbourne. Located in the inner Northern suburbs, Moonee Valley is well known for its popular Friday night racing under lights.

The Valley was established in 1883 by W.S. Cox, who now has ‘Australasia’s weight-for-age championship’ – the Cox Plate – named in his honour.

Also known for its unique course, The Valley has a circumference of 1,805 meters, with a very short home straight measuring just 173 meters. The course is due to undergo a significant redevelopment over the next several years.

There are four Group 1 races run at Moonee Valley each year, including the Manikato Stakes, Moir Stakes, William Reid Stakes and the Cox Plate.
