Flemington race course is heart of racing in Melbourne, commonly referred to as ‘headquarters’.
The track has a circumference of 2,318 meters and a home straight of 450 meters. Races conducted over 1200m or less begin in a chute and are run down the famous Flemington strraight.
Flemington plays host to the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival every November and is the home to the “race that stops the nation”, the Melbourne Cup.
A total of 14 Group 1 races are run at Flemington each year, including the likes of the Victoria Derby, Coolmore Stud Stakes, Newmarket Handicap and the Australian Cup.
